About
About Colby & Co.
A small Manx accountancy practice for owner-managed businesses. Founded in 2011, six people, around eighty clients - and no plans to be bigger than that.
The firm today
Six people. Around eighty clients. Deliberately small.
We're based in Douglas, with six people on the team and around eighty active clients. Each partner looks after a manageable book of clients, and every client knows who their partner is. There are no account managers, no client portals to chase, and no annual review where you meet a stranger.
The work itself is the standard mix of accountancy practice - statutory accounts, tax, payroll, bookkeeping, business advice when it's needed - delivered in the way we'd want to be served if we were the client. That means doing what we say, on time, and being straight when something needs to change.
What we believe
Three principles that shape how we work.
Small is a feature, not a limitation
A small firm can know its clients. A big firm can't. We've spent fifteen years proving that knowing the client matters more than the size of the team behind them.
The partner does the work
Most of our peers run a model where the partner sells and a junior delivers. We don't. The partner who agrees the work is the partner who does it. That's slower, costs more, and produces a noticeably better result.
Consistency is the product
The same accountant year after year is the most underrated thing in our profession. We don't churn staff, we don't pass clients between partners, and we don't restructure for the sake of it.
The Island
A Manx firm working with Manx businesses.
That's not a marketing line - it's the reason we know how to handle the things that matter on the Island. Manx tax. The IoM Companies Registry. Local statutory deadlines. The financial sector requirements that don't apply across the water. The conversations with Treasury that don't fit in an email.
If you're a Manx business, you want an accountant who knows what's on the Island, who's spoken to the people, and who's been here long enough that the work is second nature. That's the firm we set out to build.
Sounds like the kind of firm you want to work with?
We'd be happy to talk. The first conversation is free.
