Living in The Saltings
The family end of town, right beside the nature reserve.
The Saltings is where Porthaven goes to grow up - the newer, greener edge of town laid out from the 1990s onwards beside the salt marsh nature reserve. Estates of semis and detached houses, proper gardens, driveways instead of permits, and pavements wide enough for scooters and buggies side by side.
Schools anchor the area: Saltings Primary is consistently the most-cited reason families move here, and the secondary school sits within walking distance of most of the estates. The reserve does the rest - boardwalk trails through the reedbeds, a bird hide that has converted many a reluctant child, and flat, safe cycling all the way to the retail park.
Family houses dominate the rental stock: three-bedroom semis from around £1,200 pcm, four-beds beyond that, plus modern apartment blocks like Saltmarsh House for singles and couples who want new-build efficiency. Properties here let fast in spring and early summer as families aim to move before the September school term.
