What OLXR Is
OLXR is a bespoke software consultancy founded in 2019 and based on the Isle of Man. We design and build custom web applications, mobile apps, API integrations, and technical systems for businesses across the UK and Europe.
We are not an agency. There is no sales team, no account managers, and no bench of developers waiting to be assigned to your project. Every engagement is led personally by Owen Jones - the founder, architect, and engineer - from the first conversation through to delivery and beyond. You work with the person who designs your system, writes your code, and is still available three years after launch.
This model is deliberate. Software built by a senior engineer who understands the business context, takes ownership of the outcome, and has skin in the long-term reliability of what they have delivered is consistently better than software produced by a team where responsibility is distributed and nobody owns the result.
The name started as Elixir - we liked the idea of software as something that transforms and improves what it touches. But Elixir had no connection to the founder, so it became Olixir - Owen's Elixir. Then the two i's came out for a cleaner, shorter brand name, and OLXR was born.
It is pronounced however you like. Most people say it as four letters.

Understand the Problem
We do not write code until we understand why. Every engagement starts with time spent on the business context - workflows, friction points, data, and constraints - before any system is designed.
Architecture First
Decisions made in the first two weeks determine what every subsequent decision costs. Database design, API structure, and component boundaries compound - so we make them carefully and honestly.
Honest Advice
We will tell you when bespoke software is not the right answer, when budget and requirements do not align, or when a feature will create problems. Most of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients.
Long-Term Relationship
Most agency engagements end when the final invoice clears. Ours do not. We stand behind, maintain, and evolve the systems we build - still available and accountable years after launch.
Where We Work
OLXR is based on the Isle of Man and works remotely with clients across the UK and Europe. We have delivered projects for clients in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin, and across the Isle of Man itself - as well as for businesses operating internationally from Isle of Man bases.
Remote-first working is standard for us. We invest in clear written communication, regular video calls, and structured progress updates that keep clients informed without requiring constant availability from either side. For clients who prefer occasional in-person contact, we are available for visits when the engagement justifies it.

Our Values in Practice
Every consultancy has a values page. Most of them say the same things. Here is what ours actually means in practice:
We only take on work we can deliver well
If your project requires skills we do not have, a timeline we cannot meet, or a budget that does not reflect the work involved, we will tell you that rather than taking the project and finding out during delivery. Turning down work that is not a good fit is how we maintain the quality of the work we do take on.
We own the outcome, not just the process
We are not interested in delivering code that technically meets a specification but does not solve the underlying problem. If we discover during a project that the agreed approach is not going to produce the right outcome, we surface that conversation rather than delivering what was specified.
We write things down
Architecture decisions, requirement changes, scope discussions, and technical choices are documented. At the end of every engagement, you have documentation that lets any competent developer understand the system - not just the person who built it. That is what makes software maintainable over the long term.
