About
About Andreas Advocates.
A Manx legal practice founded in 2014. We work from offices in Douglas and serve private clients, businesses, and trustees across the Isle of Man.
The firm
Six people. Two practising advocates. A general practice.
There are six of us. Two practising advocates, two paralegals, and two support staff. Every client's matter is led by one of the advocates - directly, from the first conversation to the closing letter.
The work is the standard mix of a Manx general practice: property and conveyancing, family law, wills and estate administration, commercial and corporate matters, and the litigation and disputes that arise from each of these areas. We have specific experience in cross-border matters - between the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom - and a body of work in trust-related disputes that reflects the Island's role as an international financial centre.
The firm has grown carefully since it was founded. We have not opened a second office, taken on a third partner, or pursued growth for its own sake. The size of the practice is the size that allows us to do the work in the way we believe it should be done.
How we work
Three commitments we make at the start of every matter.
Partner-led
Every matter is handled by a practising advocate, not by a paralegal under supervision. The advocate who agrees the engagement is the advocate who delivers the work and reports on it. We do not run the leveraged model where a partner sells and a junior delivers - it is, in our view, a poor model for the kind of work clients bring to a small firm.
Transparent on costs
We agree the basis of charges with every client at the start of the matter, in writing. For most matters, we work on a fixed fee or capped fee basis. Where hourly rates apply, the rate is agreed in advance, and we provide regular updates on costs incurred.
Direct contact
When you instruct us, you receive your advocate's direct telephone number and email address. There is no central inbox, no being passed between advocates, and no surprise when you call to find that the person who knows your matter is unavailable.
Regulatory standards
Regulated by the Isle of Man Law Society.
Andreas Advocates is regulated by the Isle of Man Law Society. We are bound by the rules of professional conduct and the Code of Conduct for Manx Advocates. We carry professional indemnity insurance with cover of £3 million for each and every claim.
We are committed to the protection of client money. All client funds are held in a designated client account at a Manx bank, separate from the firm's own accounts and audited annually.
