Current Availability

An honest, up-to-date view of our capacity - so you know exactly when we can start work on your project.

Current Status

Available for New Projects

We currently have capacity for new engagements. Get in touch and we can typically begin scoping within one to two weeks of an initial conversation.

Last updated 15 April 2026

OLXR typically runs one to two active client engagements at a time. This page shows our current availability for new projects and engagements, and is updated whenever our situation changes.

If we are fully booked, it is still worth getting in touch early. We can have an initial conversation, understand your requirements, and give you a realistic start date - so when capacity opens, your project can begin without delay.

Typical Lead Times

Lead times vary depending on the type of engagement and our current commitments. Here is a realistic guide to how quickly different types of work can typically begin.

Bespoke Projects

4 - 6 weeks from first contact to development start

Bespoke projects require a scoping phase before development begins - typically one to three weeks depending on project complexity. This scoping work can begin relatively quickly after an initial conversation, and development follows once the scope and estimate are agreed.

Hire Us (Hourly or Daily)

1 - 2 weeks for ongoing work on existing systems

Time-based engagements can typically begin faster than fixed-price projects because there is less upfront scoping required. For team augmentation on a new project, a brief onboarding period is required before we can contribute meaningfully.

Partnerships

2 - 4 weeks from first conversation to kickoff

Partnership engagements require a mutual assessment phase before committing - understanding the product, the market, and the proposed equity or revenue share structure. Once agreed, the initial build can typically begin within two to four weeks.

Technical Consultation

1 - 2 weeks to schedule

Consultancy engagements - architecture reviews, fractional CTO, code reviews - can often be scheduled within one to two weeks. For ongoing fractional CTO arrangements, a longer onboarding period is needed before the engagement is fully productive.

How We Manage Capacity

OLXR is a single-engineer consultancy. Every project is designed and delivered personally by Owen Jones - which means we take on a limited number of engagements at any one time to ensure every client gets the attention their project deserves.

We typically run one significant bespoke project alongside one or two smaller engagements - such as a time-based retainer, a technical consultation, or a fixed-price package. This combination allows us to give priority attention to active development work while remaining available for ongoing support and advisory clients.

We do not take on more work than we can deliver well. If your project timeline requires more capacity than we have available, we will tell you honestly rather than committing to a timeline we cannot meet.

Getting in the Queue

Even when we are fully booked, getting in touch early is worthwhile. Here is why:

  • We can have an initial conversation and understand your requirements before capacity opens - so when we are ready to start, there is no delay
  • We can give you a realistic start date and keep you informed if our timeline changes
  • For projects with a specific deadline, knowing early whether we can meet it is more useful than finding out too late
  • Scoping work - producing a technical specification - can sometimes begin before full development capacity is available

We respond to all enquiries within 24 hours and will always give you an honest answer about timing rather than telling you what you want to hear.

What Happens During Busy Periods

When we are at full capacity, we are selective about the enquiries we take forward. We prioritise:

Projects that align closely with our core expertise - .NET, C#, React Native, SQL Server, AWS
Engagements where we can add the most value - architecture, senior delivery, technical leadership
Clients with well-defined requirements who are ready to move forward
Long-term relationships over one-off projects where possible

If we cannot take on your project, we will tell you clearly and promptly so you can make alternative arrangements without losing time.

Get in Touch

Whether we are available now or you are planning ahead, the best first step is a conversation. Tell us about your project and we will give you an honest view of timing, fit, and next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

We update the availability status whenever our situation changes - typically when a project completes, when a new engagement begins, or when our forward pipeline shifts significantly. We aim to keep it accurate at all times rather than updating it on a fixed schedule.

Yes. Once we have had an initial conversation and agreed the scope, we can commit to a specific start date that works for both sides. We plan our engagements carefully and only commit to dates we are confident we can meet. If anything ever changes on our end, you will hear about it from us early, not at the last minute.

Tell us about the urgency when you get in touch. If you have a genuine deadline - a regulatory requirement, a product launch, a specific event - we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it. We do not take on commitments we cannot keep, but we will do our best to accommodate genuine time-sensitive requirements when our capacity allows.

Occasionally, if we know another developer or consultancy whose skills and approach we trust and who we believe would be a good fit for your project, we will make a recommendation. We do not have formal referral arrangements and do not receive fees for referrals - any recommendation we make is based purely on whether we think it would serve you well.

Yes - in many cases, smaller engagements like technical analysis, a scoping session, or an ad-hoc support block can fit around existing commitments even when we are at capacity for major project work. Get in touch and describe what you need - we will tell you whether it is something we can accommodate.
