This is not a resource hire. When you engage OLXR, you are working directly with Owen Jones - the founder and lead engineer - who takes full ownership of the work rather than executing tasks handed down through a management layer. You get the benefit of senior experience applied directly to your project, with full transparency on what is being worked on and what it costs.

Engagements are invoiced monthly against tracked time, whether you engage hourly for short focused work or by the day for larger ongoing pieces. You always know exactly what you have spent and what has been delivered. There are no surprises on the invoice and no time billed without a clear record of what it was spent on.

Initial Conversation

We start with a free conversation to understand what you need, what your existing team looks like, and what the work involves. This gives us enough context to confirm the rate and give you a realistic sense of the time likely to be required.

Agreed Rate and Scope

We confirm the day rate and any agreed minimum commitment in writing before work begins. For ongoing retainer arrangements, we agree the approximate number of days per month and the priorities for that time.

Regular Delivery and Reporting

Work is delivered in short, focused cycles with regular updates and demos. You see progress frequently and can adjust priorities as needed. Time is tracked and reported monthly with a clear breakdown of what was worked on.

Flexible and Ongoing

You can increase or decrease the engaged days as your needs change. There is no penalty for scaling down, and we can scale up capacity for periods of intensive work where needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hourly is right for short, focused tasks - small fixes, quick reviews, ad-hoc technical questions, or tightly scoped pieces of work where a full day would be more than you need. Day rate is right for ongoing development, team augmentation, or larger pieces of work where the time investment will routinely be a full day or more. For ongoing relationships, day rate retainers are usually more cost-effective. We will recommend the right structure during the initial conversation.

For hourly engagements, the minimum is one hour. For ongoing day-rate retainers, a minimum of one month is sensible to allow enough time to get up to speed and make meaningful progress. For more ad-hoc day-rate arrangements, we are flexible. We will discuss the appropriate structure for your specific situation during the initial conversation.

We track time against specific tasks and features, and provide a monthly breakdown showing exactly what was worked on, how long it took, and what it cost. There are no vague line items - every hour is accounted for with a clear description of the work.

Yes - both hourly and day-rate engagements can be paused and resumed with reasonable notice. We will agree the notice period for changes to the engagement level at the outset. We understand that development needs change and we structure engagements to accommodate that.

If your requirements become clearly enough defined during an hourly or day-rate engagement that a fixed-price approach makes more sense, we can transition to that model. The scoping work done during the engagement counts towards the fixed-price project and is not wasted.
