Mobile App MVP Development

Lean, focused iOS and Android applications that get you in front of real users as quickly as responsibly possible - built on architecture that can scale, submitted to both app stores, and ready to learn from.

Let's Talk

Launch Lean, Learn Fast

We build mobile app MVPs for startups and founders across the UK and Isle of Man. Lean, focused iOS and Android applications that get you in front of real users as quickly as responsibly possible - built on architecture that can scale, submitted to both app stores, and ready to learn from.

A mobile app MVP is one of the more expensive and complex types of MVP to build, and one of the areas where scope discipline matters most. The temptation to add features because they seem necessary, to polish the UI beyond what is needed for validation, or to build infrastructure for scale before you have validated demand - these are the decisions that turn a 12-week MVP into a 9-month project. We apply genuine discipline to scope and help you identify the smallest version of your app that can generate the feedback you need.

Every mobile MVP we build is designed and delivered personally by Owen Jones, OLXR's founder and lead engineer. We have been through the mobile MVP process first-hand as product owners, not just as developers, and we bring that perspective - scope discipline, app store reality, and architectural foresight - to every mobile MVP project.

Who This Is For

Founders with a mobile app idea who need a technical partner to build it properly and get it to the app stores
Startups raising investment who need a working mobile product to demonstrate, not a prototype or a design
Non-technical founders who need honest guidance on what to build, what the app stores require, and what the realistic timeline and cost looks like
Businesses exploring a mobile channel for an existing product and wanting to validate demand before committing to a full mobile application
Founders who have had a mobile MVP quoted at an unrealistic price or timeline and want a second, honest opinion
Founders who need early user metrics and analytics built into the MVP from day one to validate assumptions

What We Deliver

Scoped MVP

Built around the core user journey that validates your hypothesis.

iOS & Android

Single React Native codebase for both platforms.

App Store Submission

Actually available to download, not just built.

Backend API

Server-side layer built to the same production standard.

Auth & Onboarding

Core flows getting users to their first meaningful action.

Analytics

Visibility into how users actually use the app from day one.

Post-MVP Roadmap

Informed by architecture decisions made during the build.

Post-Launch Iteration

Capacity reserved to iterate based on what real users do in the first weeks after launch.

Our Approach

1
Define the Hypothesis First

A mobile MVP without a clear hypothesis is not an MVP - it is just a small app. Before designing any feature, we work with you to define what you are trying to learn from the MVP: what assumption about your users or your product needs to be validated, what evidence would confirm or challenge that assumption, and what the minimum app capability is that would generate that evidence. That discipline is what keeps the MVP focused and prevents the scope from expanding to include features that are interesting but do not help you learn what you need to learn.

2
Build for the App Stores

A mobile MVP that does not reach the app stores has not validated anything in the real market. We build with app store submission as a first-class deliverable - accounting for Apple's and Google's requirements throughout development rather than treating them as a hurdle to clear at the end. The app stores have real standards for privacy, security, and content that are not negotiable, and meeting them is part of what we deliver.

3
Architect for What Comes After

An MVP built on throwaway architecture is an MVP that will need to be rebuilt when it succeeds - which is an expensive outcome that undermines the value of the validation work. We make architecture decisions in mobile MVPs that are appropriate for an MVP in terms of scope but sound in terms of the foundations they establish. The app you launch as an MVP is built on the same foundations as the app you will build if it succeeds.

Why Choose OLXR

Most mobile MVPs fail because scope expands during the build. We have been through the mobile MVP process as product owners, not just developers - so we apply the scope discipline, app store discipline, and architectural discipline that turns a 12-week MVP into a real, learnable launch rather than a 9-month project.

Scope Discipline

We push back on features that do not validate the core hypothesis

App Stores First-Class

Built to actually reach iOS and Android users, not just be demo-ready

Built To Scale

Architecture sound enough to grow if your MVP succeeds

Senior-Led

Designed by the founder with first-hand product experience

A mobile MVP that takes 9 months has not validated anything except your patience - we build with the discipline to launch, learn, and iterate fast.

Frequently Asked Questions

A well-scoped mobile MVP typically takes 10-14 weeks from a finalised brief to App Store and Google Play availability. That includes development, testing, app store preparation, and the review process - which typically takes one to three business days for each store. The single biggest factor in the timeline is scope discipline. MVPs that expand during the build take proportionally longer.

The minimum useful mobile MVP is the smallest set of functionality that allows a real user to complete the core value-delivering workflow of your app, from download through to the moment they experience the value you are promising. Everything else is optional for the MVP. We work through this with you during the planning phase - and we push back when features that feel necessary are actually peripheral to the core hypothesis.

A focused mobile MVP typically starts from £20,000-£30,000 including the backend API and app store submission for both iOS and Android. This is more than a web MVP because of the additional platform complexity, the app store requirements, and the need to support two platforms. We will give you a realistic estimate based on your specific requirements - and we will tell you if your budget and your requirements do not align.

After launch, the most important activity is learning from real users - understanding what they do, what they struggle with, what they want that you have not built, and what you built that they do not use. We work with you after launch to interpret that feedback and prioritise what comes next, building out the application iteratively based on evidence rather than the assumptions that informed the MVP.
